Job Vacancies and Volunteering 

Seereer Radio is currently looking for volunteers for the following positions (see below). These are great opportunities for those wishing to develop their journalistic or broadcasting skills. It is also a good stepping stone for those wishing to get into radio. Experience is not necessary as training will be provided.  

You must however have a laptop or computer with broadband internet access and be passionate about Seereer culture, history and/or religion, be hardworking, a great communicator and reliable. If you can speak Seereer-Siin or any of the Cangin languages especially Ndut, Sili-Sili (or Palor), Laalaa (or Lehar) and Noon, that is a big bonus and we definitely would love to hear from you. Position: Seereer-Siin / Seereer Talk Radio Presenter
Seerer Radio requires a Seereer-Siin talk radio presenter.

Duties

A confident, passionate and reliable individual required to present a radio program(s) in the Seereer-Siin language. Technical radio training will be provided but you must be a fluent speaker of Seereer-Siin.

Requirements

  • You must have your own personal computer or laptop with reliable internet broadband (not dial-up). 
  • You must be passionate about Seereer culture, history and/or religion.
  • You must be a fluent speaker of Seereer-Siin or any of the Seereer dialects such as Niominka, Gyegem, etc.
  • Be an opinionated but engaging personality.
  • You must be confident with great communication skills. 
  • You must be reliable and punctual.
Position: Sili-Sili (or Palor) Talk Radio Presenter
Seerer Radio requires a Sili-Sili (or Palor) talk radio presenter.

Duties

A confident, passionate and reliable individual required to present a radio program(s) in the Sili-Sili (or Palor) language. Technical radio training will be provided but you must be a fluent speaker of Sili-Sili (or Palor).

Position: Noon Talk Radio Presenter
Seerer Radio requires a Noon talk radio presenter.

Duties

A confident, passionate and reliable individual required to present a radio program(s) in the Noon language. Technical radio training will be provided but you must be a fluent speaker of  Noon.

Position: Ndut Talk Radio Presenter
Seerer Radio requires a Ndut talk radio presenter.

Duties

A confident, passionate and reliable individual required to present a radio program(s) in the Ndut  language. Technical radio training will be provided but you must be a fluent speaker of Ndut .

Position: Laalaa (or Lehar) Talk Radio Presenter
Seerer Radio requires a Laalaa (or Lehar) talk radio presenter.

Duties

A confident, passionate and reliable individual required to present a radio program(s) in the  Laalaa (or Lehar) language. Technical radio training will be provided but you must be a fluent speaker of  Laalaa (or Lehar).

  • You must be a fluent speaker of  Laalaa (or Lehar).

Position: Radio DJ
Seerer Radio requires a radio DJ with a varied musical taste including Seereer, Senegambian and urban / contemporary music. An interest in celebrity news - recording artists in particular is a most. 

Duties

A confident, passionate and reliable DJ required to present a radio music show(s). Technical radio training will be provided but you must be a good DJ with a varied music collection including Seereer, Senegambian, R&B, House, Reggea, Ragga etc. 

Requirements

  • You must have your own personal computer or laptop with reliable internet broadband (not dial-up). 
  • You must be passionate about Seereer music and other music.
  • You must have your own music collection.
  • Ability to speak Seereer-Siin or any of the Cangin languages is desirable but not essential.
  • Be an opinionated but engaging personality.
  • Interested in celebrity news and gossip (recording artists in particular) so that you can interweave it within the music program.
  • You must be confident with great communication skills. 
  • You must be reliable and punctual.

Paid job :

Position: Field Researchers (Paid Job)
The Seereer Resource Centre (SRC) and Seereer Radio requires Field Researchers within Seereer towns and villages in Senegal, the Gambia and Mauritania. As a Field Researcher, you will plan and interview Seereer elders about their family history and genealogy in order to enhance the Seereer Resource Centre's genealogical database. Experience or qualifications are not necessary for this job as the SRC will provide training and furnish you with all the resources (e.g. genealogical sheets, dictaphone or video recorder) you need in order to carry out your genealogical research.

Essential

  1. You will be planning and carrying out the interview, therefore good organisational skills are prerequisite. 
  2. You must be able to read and write in English or French fluently. 
  3. You must be fluent in any of these languages: Seereer-Siin, Saafi-Saafi, Ndut, Sili-Sili (or Palor), Laalaa (or Lehar), Noon or Wolof.
  4. You must have a neat and clear handwriting.
  5. You must be social, have a bubbly personality with the ability to interact with strangers.
  6. You must be patient. Genealogical research is never a rushed job, but a higher degree of patience is prerequisite.
  7. Good listening skills
  8. Good analytical skills
  9. Ability to emphathise with others.
  10. Ability to put people at ease and influence others to talk about themselves.
  11. You must be reliable, resourceful and professional.
  12. Good attention to detail. 
  13. Good communication skills.
  14. Honesty. As you will be handling the SRC's assets. 
  15. Good understanding of who the SRC are, what they do and how your work will contribute towards the achievement of our overal objectives. 
  16. You must be passionate about family history and genealogy.
  17. You must have access to a computer, internet connection, be familiar with Microsoft Office Suit and be able to use an email.
  18. Ability to work on your own using your own initiative.
  19. You must be living within or near Seereer towns and villages in Senegal, the Gambia or Mauritania. Do not apply if you are not currently living in these countries.

Desirable

  1. Journalists and former detectives or police officers are highly encouraged to apply.
  2. A good team player.
  3. Motivated.

Fees

The Seereer Resource Centre is willing to pay £30 - £50 per subject/family + travel expenses. Depending on experience.
